Men's Health

Most men need to pay more attention to their health. There are also health conditions that only affect men, such as prostate cancer and low testosterone. Symptoms of low testosterone include low sex drive, difficulty with erection, low semen volume, hair loss, fatigue, loss of muscle mass, increased body fat, decreased bone mass, mood changes, affected memeroy and low blood counts.

Many of the major health risks that men face - like colon cancer or heart disease - can be prevented and treated with early diagnosis. Screening tests can find diseases early, when they are easier to treat. It's important to get the screening tests you need

Hypothyroidism

Many people have a thyroid gland that cannot make enough thyroid hormone for the body’s needs. This is called Hypothyroidism and may be caused by a non-functioning thyroid gland (for example Hashimoto’s disease), by destruction of thyroid gland by surgery or radiation treatment or by a non-functioning pituitary gland. Hypothyroidism is the most common reason for needing thyroid hormone replacement.

Symptoms of hypothyroidism include fatigue, weight gain, headache, anxiety, cold sensitivity, constipation, and dry skin.

The goal of thyroid hormone treatment is to closely replicate normal thyroid functioning.  Thyroid hormone is necessary for the health of all the cells in the body. Therefore, taking thyroid hormone is different from taking other medications, because its job is to replace a hormone that is missing. The only safety concerns about taking thyroid hormone are taking too much or too little. Your thyroid function will be monitored to make sure this does not happen.

Diabetes

More than 34 million people in the United States have diabetes, and 1 in 5 of them don’t know they have it.  More than 88 million US adults—over a third—have prediabetes, and more than 84% of them don’t know they have it. In the last 20 years, the number of adults diagnosed with diabetes has more than doubled as the American population has aged and become more overweight or obese.  Advanced Integrative Medicine can help diagnose prediabetes and diabetes.

We can help treat diabetes with an emphasis on both lifestyle changes and medications.  Hg A1c (a marker that can help identify 3-month average glucose levels) can be completed in our office.  Our clinic will help pick the right diabetes medication for you, if indicated.

Weight loss

More than 67% people in the United States are overweight or obese, and 49% of adults are actively trying to lose weight. Although dieting is the most common method of attempted weight loss, it often doesn’t work out as well as hoped. Furthermore, repeatedly gaining and losing weight can have a negative impact on your metabolic activity and overall health. Rather than dieting on your own, Advanced Integrative Medicine can help you achieve your optimal weight.

At Advanced Integrative Medicine, we treat each person walking in the door as an individual with unique needs. We help create a plan that is both sustainable and safe.  We will screen for hormonal imbalances or other medical problems that may be preventing weight loss.  Ultimately, we help patients change their lifestyle, not just their diet.

Hypertension

Hypertension, also called high blood pressure, condition that arises when the blood pressure is abnormally high. Hypertension occurs when the body’s smaller blood vessels (the arterioles) narrow, causing the blood to exert excessive pressure against the vessel walls and forcing the heart to work harder to maintain the pressure. Although the heart and blood vessels can tolerate increased blood pressure for months and even years, eventually the heart may enlarge and be weakened to the point of failure. Injury to blood vessels in the kidneys, brain, and eyes also may occur.

Hypertension can lead to congestive heart failure, stroke, and kidney failure.  Advanced Integrative Medicine will help you achieve optimal control of your blood pressure thru both medication and life style changes.  We will also make sure recommended testing such as EKG’s, echocardiogram, lab studies and stress testing are completed when indicated.
